What can I do on Abergele Pensarn Beach?

With the sandy shore revealed at low tide, this is a lovely sandcastle beach where families will enjoy spending a traditional day at the seaside. Strong coastal breezes from the Irish Sea and easy access make this beach a popular choice for windsurfers and kite surfers too.

This beach is also popular with wildlife visitors. In 1977, part of the beach was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in recognition of it being a particularly fine example of a vegetated shingle bank. Several plant species rare in North Wales, such as Sea Kale, Ray’s Knotgrass and Sea Radish, can be found along the shingle ridge adjacent to the coastal path.

This beach has good facilities, including ample parking, toilets (payable), cafes, a shop (seasonal opening), crazy golf, a play area, amusement arcades and kiosks.

How do I get here?

Even though the beach is just off the A55, it’s a peaceful spot that doesn’t get as busy as neighbouring Kinmel Bay and Colwyn Bay beaches, even in high season. Abergele Pensarn train station is located just off the beach and you can reach the beach from nearby Abergele town on foot. Running parallel to the beach is the Wales Coast Path, a route which stretches 60 miles along the North Wales coast. The path is popular with cyclists and also forms part of National Cycle Route 5 which runs from Rhyl to Llanfairfechan.

Abergele Pensarn Beach is an e-bike charging and maintenance stop - cyclists travelling along the coast of Conwy can make use of dedicated e-bike facilities at a number of convenient points along National Cycle Route 5. Provided by Conwy County Borough Council, the facilities are designed to support people using electric bikes for leisure, commuting and longer journeys along the coast.

Can I walk my dog on Abergele Pensarn Beach?

Conwy County is proud to be a dog-friendly destination but there are restrictions on where and when you can walk your dog on the beach. Some beaches welcome dogs all year round but many do not allow them (except for registered guide dogs and assistance dogs) between the 1^st May - 30^th September and some prohibit dogs all year round. Whatever the restrictions, we encourage you to ensure your dog is always under control, both on and off the lead. We also ask that you pick up after your dog as it is an offence not to. Lastly, dispose of dog waste in a convenient litter bin.
