Welcome to North Shore, Llandudno's world-famous beach and promenade. Visitors have been flocking here since Victorian times to enjoy a quintessential day at the seaside in magnificent natural surroundings.

Stretching from the Little Orme to the Great Orme, the town’s twin limestone headlands, Llandudno North Shore boasts a two-mile-long promenade, an expansive shingle beach, a smaller sandy beach and a paddling pool. Popular since Victorian times, this world-famous stretch of beach has much to offer visitors.

What can I do on Llandudno North Shore Beach?

Here you can enjoy a typical day at the seaside including donkey rides, Punch & Judy, ice cream, sandcastle making, fairground rides and amusement arcades. There are also lot of water-based activities to enjoy too – think boat trips, watersports, fishing and rock pooling.

When visiting North Shore Beach, don’t miss a visit to Llandudno Pier. Located just steps from Llandudno town centre, this is the longest pier in Wales and boasts an array of seaside attractions, including a big wheel and amusement arcades. During the summer months, the pier is the docking point for the Waverley Paddle Steamer as it makes it annual programme of day trips between Liverpool and Llandudno – a sight not to be missed! If sights are your thing, you will be well-rewarded after a walk to the end of the pier. From here you can enjoy picture perfect views of the resort, the north-west Wales coastline and the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park.

The paddling pool located at the Craig-y-Don end of the beach is a large, shallow outdoor pool popular with families. You’ll find a play area, café and public toilets here along with Llandudno’s Lifeboat Station. The small sandy beach at the town centre end of the beach also offers opportunities for a traditional day at the seaside; hire a deckchair and watch the world go by or explore the rockpools at low tide.

This sheltered stretch of coastline is iconic and somewhat controversial. In recent years, flood defence works transformed Llandudno North Shore Beach with the addition of hundreds of tonnes of rock intended to protect the town in the event of extreme weather. As a result, the beach lost some of its charm but now fulfils an important function in protecting the resort.

Probably one of the most photographed vistas in the UK, the view of Llandudno Bay with the Victorian pier and Great Orme in the background is instantly recognisable the world over.

How do I get here?

Llandudno North Shore Beach runs the length of Llandudno and wherever you are in the resort, you’re never far from the sea! From the town centre and train station, you can reach the promenade on foot in a few minutes. The walk is on the flat and there are multiple crossing points from the town centre onto the promenade. There is pay and display parking along the promenade and several car parks around the town centre. National Cycle Route 5 passes along the seafront where cyclists and pedestrians are asked to ‘share with care’ along the promenade.

Llandudno North Shore is an e-bike charging and maintenance stop - cyclists travelling along the coast of Conwy can make use of dedicated e-bike facilities at a number of convenient points along National Cycle Route 5. Provided by Conwy County Borough Council, the facilities are designed to support people using electric bikes for leisure, commuting and longer journeys along the coast.

Can I walk my dog on Llandudno North Shore Beach?

Conwy County is proud to be a dog-friendly destination but there are restrictions on where and when you can walk your dog on the beach. Some beaches welcome dogs all year round but many do not allow them (except for registered guide dogs and assistance dogs) between the 1^st May - 30^th September and some prohibit dogs all year round. Whatever the restrictions, we encourage you to ensure your dog is always under control, both on and off the lead. We also ask that you pick up after your dog as it is an offence not to. Lastly, dispose of dog waste in a convenient litter bin.
