What can I do on Llanfairfechan Beach?

Developed in Victorian times, Llanfairfechan is a quaint seaside resort backed by the green and rolling foothills of the Carneddau Mountains.  

Down at the beach and you’re spoilt for choice for things to do. The shingle shore reveals a wide, sandy beach at low tide and a broad promenade runs the length of the beach, making the seaside accessible to all via a gently sloping jetty. The Beach Pavilion Café and toilets can be found at the centre of the promenade, serving delicious homemade meals and snacks during the visitor months.

With ample free parking for all, a paddling pool, play area and boating pond, plus lovely grassy to relax and unwind, this beach is hard to beat for a traditional family day at the seaside.

For those of you who enjoy exploring on foot or on wheels, the Wales Coast Path and National Cycle Route 5 run along the front taking in the Glan y Mor Elias Nature Reserve – a beautiful saltmarsh home to several rare seabirds. It’s a lovely, accessible route suitable for all. As the path meanders west towards Bangor and with just the sound of the sea to accompany you, there’s a real sense of getting away from it all.

 Oh, and did we mention the views? Llanfairfechan boasts spectacular vistas in every direction, including views towards Llandudno and Anglesey.

How do I get here?

Llanfairfechan Beach is accessible by car from the A55; there is a large car park (payable) adjacent to the promenade. Llanfairfechan train station is very close to the beach and it is also possible to walk from Conwy or Penmaenmawr along the Wales Coast Path. For cyclists, National Cycle Route 5 passes along the promenade.

Llanfairfechan is an e-bike charging and maintenance stop - cyclists travelling along the coast of Conwy can make use of dedicated e-bike facilities at a number of convenient points along National Cycle Route 5. provided by Conwy County Borough Council, the facilities are designed to support people using electric bikes for leisure, commuting and longer journeys along the coast.

Can I walk my dog on Llanfairfechan Beach?

Conwy County is proud to be a dog-friendly destination but there are restrictions on where and when you can walk your dog on the beach. Some beaches welcome dogs all year round but many do not allow them (except for registered guide dogs and assistance dogs) between the 1^st May - 30^th September and some prohibit dogs all year round. Whatever the restrictions, we encourage you to ensure your dog is always under control, both on and off the lead. We also ask that you pick up after your dog as it is an offence not to. Lastly, dispose of dog waste in a convenient litter bin.
