What can I do on Sandy Cove Beach?

This expansive beach with views across the Irish Sea is a lovely spot to get away from it all and is popular with nature lovers, watersports enthusiasts, walkers and bikers.

You can escape the hustle and bustle of the busy coastal resorts at Sandy Cove Beach – it’s a beach so wide and open, it never feels crowded!

The promenade is perfect for leisurely strolls and is accessible for wheelchair users, with several places to stop and take in the views. Backing onto the promenade, Kinmel Dunes is the last surviving dune habitat on this stretch of coast. It’s a very important habitat for several species of North Wales plants and animals which you can search for by following the designated circular route around the dunes.

There is ample seating to stop and enjoy your surroundings and, during the summer, there is a kiosk serving snacks, and toilet facilities.

How do I get here?

Public transport stops close by in Kinmel Bay and the beach can be accessed on foot along the Wales Coast Path, while cyclists can take a short detour off Cycle Route 5 to explore. If you are travelling by car, there is a pay and display car park nearby.

Sandy Cove is an e-bike charging and maintenance stop - cyclists travelling along the coast of Conwy can make use of dedicated e-bike facilities at a number of convenient points along National Cycle Route 5. Provided by Conwy County Borough Council, the facilities are designed to support people using electric bikes for leisure, commuting and longer journeys along the coast.

Can I walk my dog on Sandy Cove Beach?

Conwy County is proud to be a dog-friendly destination but there are restrictions on where and when you can walk your dog on the beach. Some beaches welcome dogs all year round but many do not allow them (except for registered guide dogs and assistance dogs) between the 1^st May - 30^th September and some prohibit dogs all year round. Whatever the restrictions, we encourage you to ensure your dog is always under control, both on and off the lead. We also ask that you pick up after your dog as it is an offence not to. Lastly, dispose of dog waste in a convenient litter bin.
